Surging Opposition
by John “Doe” Willoughby
With most of America, or should I say, the Americans who have brain wave activity, are opposing Bush’s troop surge and policy of escalation (major polls show that 61 to 70% of Amercans polled are against President Bush’s Surge Policy).
Bush’s war in Iraq seems to be shadowing the Viet Nam era. Similarities include an almost “no-way-out” quagmire not only in terms of winning an unjust war or saving face somehow but it’s affects are also similar in that the war is building up resentment to it’s existence on a monumental scale. Truly inspired resentment in Congress as well as the citizenry.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see our college students getting politically active again … at least enough to speak their minds by staging a few peaceful protests and marches like the we saw in the early 70’s… ah, those were the good ole days… come on kids… tell’em what ya think!
Those protests demonstrated true patriotism … Americanism at it’s best! Who cares if the Republicans call the student protests unpatriotic… it’s the friends of these very students that’s doing all the fighting and dying.
Sending another 21,500 troops into the Iraq frying pan will just further exasperate and heat up the situation in the Middle east overall… especially with Bush’s statement to cross the border of Iran and Assyeria to get his man.
My gosh, Bush will not even consider the Baker-Hamilton proposal (Iraq Study Group) nor will he heed the words of his constituency and those in his own party and talk to the surrounding countries.
I must applaud Chuck Hagel, the second-ranking Republican on the Foreign Relations, for his vehement outcry again Bush’s policy of escalation!
The only way I see us getting out of Iraq and re-deploying is to ” impeach the impeachable foe”.
